When we watch children play the Sandwich Mini Game in Playdate with Miaomiao, they’re mostly excited to see Benben’s reactions. We’ve seen preschoolers spend twenty minutes carefully devising and thinking about the ingredients.
The biggest achievement for children is when they realize what ingredient causes what reaction. We’ve seen them pile up hot peppers or old cheese and call their parents over to see the reaction. When steam came out of Benben’s ears, the kids would grab their heads in sympathy, when Benben cheered, the kids would too. They replicated the bears’ emotions and giggled. Benben became such a sentimental hit!
Preschoolers and emotions
Children under six are at the stage of exploring basic emotions. They are learning to use facial expressions to convey feelings like joy, anger, surprise and distress.
At this stage it’s important to label the different emotions your child comes across. It will help develop her emotional intelligence and ability to express herself better.
